Flexible payment options

Paying for your own treatment

Paying for your own treatment is a quick and easy way to get immediate access to healthcare when you need it. At St Joseph’s Hospital, we offer fixed price packages when paying for treatment yourself, with clear pricing and no hidden charges. We also offer a range of finance options that can be personalised based on what you’d like to pay, over how long and how much deposit you’d like to pay.

Using health insurance

We deal with all the major Health Insurers if you have Health Insurance. In this case the insurance provider will pay for any procedures, tests and other services if you require treatment – so long as it’s covered by your insurance policy. After your treatment, we will invoice your insurer directly, allowing you to focus on your recovery.

* £2,800 is a representative guide price. Treatment prices can differ on a patient by patient case and are determined by factors such as consultation fees, surgery options, anaesthetics options and post surgery options.

Cataract surgery at a glance

Be seen in as little as 48hrs. Our average cataract surgery wait time for initial consultation is 14 days.

Cataract removal surgery is when the frosted lens of your eye is replaced with an artificial, clear lens.

There are several artificial lenses available which can correct both near, and far, sightedness. Lens technology has progressed over recent years allowing a tailored approach to be adopted. Monofocal lenses are the most common lens type used by surgeons, however, you may opt for miltifocal lenses if you wish to reduce your reliance on reading glasses. Toric lenses are also available to treat astigmatism. Your consultant will advise you on which lens is the most suitable.

Cataract surgery is a day case procedure, which means that you do not have to stay overnight in hospital and return to home later in the day. We make sure you stay comfortable while you recover, and our teams will make sure you’re medically cleared to return home before you do so.

You may have already received a diagnosis from your GP and been added to an NHS waiting list for cataract removal surgery, or you might be in a position where you wish to self-refer.

Cataract surgery FAQs

How long will it take to recover?

After a couple of days, discomfort should disappear and you should be fully healed within 8 weeks of the surgery. It is completely normal to have blurred vision and sensitivity to light at first, while your eyes take time to heal and adjust.

Will I find a cheaper cataract surgery in the area?

We conduct regular competitor analysis to make sure we are offering you the best price in Newport, Cardiff, and the surrounding area. Our independence means we can tailor our pricing to suit our patients.

Will there be any hidden costs?

The price we agree with you upon initial consultation is the price we charge. If you have to stay in hospital overnight due to a medical issue, we will not charge you extra.

How long is the wait?

From consultation to surgery, it can take as little as 2 weeks. Simply call or email our bookings team for your initial consultation, which is usually available within 48 hours of enquiry. Then, we arrange a surgery date and time to suit you, so you don’t have to compromise. Let us help you prioritise your vision.
